DESIGN CHALLENGE

College demographics are rapidly changing and consequently demand a re-examination of student housing on college campuses. This project explores how existing condemned dormitory buildings at the University of Kentucky can be redesigned to accommodate non-traditional students.

PROCESS

Research investigated campus needs, existing structural conditions, needs of non-traditional students and how design can address those needs.

OUTCOMES

This project explored how concepts such as connectivity, interaction, privacy, and individuality can function at various scales in a project from the layout of the building to the layout of individual dorm spaces. This project also inspired me to think about how small spaces can act as modules that can be altered to fit the needs of individuals.
