Woven Trajectories
HOSPITALITY + COMMUNITY | 2019
Woven Trajectories redefines the urban “alleyway” from a place of darkness and danger to a vibrant point of intersection of diverse networks.
A collaboration with Alexa King, Brooke Blanchette, Courtney Keilman, and Savannah Stallcup
DESIGN CHALLENGE
How can urban voids, such as alleyways and parking garages, be re-imagined to bring new life and opportunity to urban spaces.
PROCESS
After extensive research around networks and the urban context of Cincinnati we identified the need for places of intersection between social classes and hotels as places of intersection and vibrancy.
OUTCOMES
Woven Trajectories capitalizes on the typology of hotels and restaurants as places of intersection to revitalize the alleyway by inserting an affordable boutique hotel and lower level bar into the parking garage and alley space. The impossibility of natural light illuminating the alleyway was also transformed into an opportunity for the alleyway to be activated by light sculptures and mural installations, making the alley into an attraction rather than an urban void.
